Jin Shin Jyutsu physio-philosophy is an ancient art of harmonizing the life energy in the body. Born of innate wisdom and passed down from generation to generation by word of mouth, the Art had fallen into relative obscurity when it was dramatically revived in the early 1900's by Master Jiro Murai (1886-1960) in Japan.

After clearing himself of life threatening illnesses, Master Murai devoted the rest of his life to the research and development of Jin Shin Jyutsu, gathering insight from a range of experiences and resources, including the Kojiki (Record of Ancient Things).

Mary Burmeister, a Japanese American, met Murai in Japan in the late 1940's and became his student. She returned to the United States in the 1950's, and has devoted her life to Jin Shin Jyutsu. Mary Burmeister began teaching the Art to others in the early 1960's and today Jin Shin Jyutsu is taught worldwide.

People often learn of Jin Shin Jyutsu by word of mouth, when someone who's had a positive and dramatic experience of the work recommends it to a friend. It's often used as a complement to conventional healing methods. One of its great advantages is that one can easily learn simple self-help techniques that supplement sessions from a practitioner.
